This blog contains a collection of fifty-seven letters written by my father, James R Chellis, to his family in Woodhaven, New York as he went through training to become a Naval Aviator in 1943. The ground school training took place on the campus of RPI in Troy, New York. He was then sent to Las Vegas, New Mexico for flight training, then on to the Long Beach Naval Hospital in Los Angeles, California for treatment of a pre-existing knee injury.
